The famous San Diego restaurant and night club, Jacks La Jolla closed its doors for good.

State records show $280,000 due in state tax liens. Additionally, unconfirmed sources claim that several large fines encompassing several hundred thousand dollars coupled with large unpaid loans forced the establishment out of business.  Employees from Jacks La Jolla claim that they were not notified of the closing and only became aware when they showed up for work to find the doors locked.  It is also apparent that they have not updated their website as of yet to inform loyal patrons of the closing

. That doesn’t surprise me.  Last time I visited Jacks I was turned away because I was wearing shorts.  The time before that several of my friends were ejected because Jane C. tripped on her high heal shoe and was spotted by a bouncer who claimed she was intoxicated and asked her to leave.

My question is, how does a business that can’t afford to stay open justify turning away paying customers? How do they justify making customers wait in line when fire codes permit their entrance into the establishment? Well Bill Berkley, what’s your answer? Exclusivity has its price and in this case it is a price that surrounding businesses may pay.
